Sending anonymous mail
Email History
The first e-mail message was
sent in 1971 by an engineer named Ray Tomlinson. Nowadays, the web users
send each other trillions of e-mail messages.
An electronic mailing system
works in much the same way that the postal service we are used to
operates.
What is Email?
Electronic-mail or Email is
the process of sending messages electronically using your computer. You
can send messages when it is convenient for you - even at 2 am. Your
recipient responds at his convenience.
Is common Email anonymous?
Not, it's not.
All email messages you send include your IP
address in a technical, usually invisible part, called "email headers".
That IP address identifies you and your computer.
When you send an email from your computer it is tagged with additional
invisible information called headers. The information in the headers
allows an internet investigator to track down the sender.
Can I send anonymous Email?
Yes, you can but you will need some special services.
Anonymous email empowers users to do a lot they can't safely accomplish
via conventional email -- from challenging oppressive governments or
corrupt corporations, to freely discussing compromising personal matters
or expressing unpopular views, to constructively criticizing professors on
their teaching effectiveness. In the U.S., no law prohibits anonymous
email communication, and several court cases recognize anonymous speech as
a type of free speech.
